Cotto Vs. Canelo - Superfight tonight! Bradley Sends Rios To Retirement.

Boxing fans should rejoice.  This may actually be their real Superbowl.  Mayweather vs Pacquaio disappointed many fans of the sport.  I actually enjoyed it, but it definitely did not live up to the hype or talk from both opposing teams.  The difference here are the fighters.  Canelo is tough and he knocks out people.  Cotto is tough and he knocks out people as well.  That alone should get people excited as many fans have a bad taste in their mouth from Mayweather's final fight.

 I made a Canelo beats Cotto prediction months back.  I'll stick with it.  I have not really followed the lead up to this fight.  I 've read a few things here and there about Cotto and some belt, but to me that's not interesting. 

What is interesting is to see if Cotto still has it as he gets older.  He's trained by Freddie Roach, who is well known in the sport and he seems to have confidence in his trainer.  In fact I think if Cotto manages to edge out Canelo, it would have to be with some kind of master game plan.  It's possible that may occur, but I can't see it happening.  I predict Canelo will hurt Cotto at some point in the fight.  If it is the other way around, I would be shocked.  I think it will be action packed.

Lastly, Tim Bradley sent Brandon Rios into retirement.  I did not see that coming.  I knew they had a fight, i didn't watch it.  I saw clips of Rios hurt in the fight though.  I was very surprised at him being hurt by Bradley who isn't really known as a big puncher, but has surprised tough opponents in the past.  What's next for Bradley?  I would love to see a Bradley vs Broner, Bradley vs Khan, Bradley vs Porter.

Mayweather Vs Berto - Canelo Vs Cotto

Two fights.  One is expected to be big, the other is expected to be a non event.  Everyone is excited about Cotto vs Canelo.  Freddie Roach is back again talking to the press.  He talked alot of smack leading up to the Mayweather Pacquiao fight and I don't know if anyone will take his predictions seriously anymore.  Canelo is tough and Cotto is tough.  My money is on Canelo though.  Younger and I believe he is stronger.

Now, Mayweather vs Berto.  Its not the opponent everyone wants to see for his final fight.   Some want a Pac rematch.  Others want a Thurman fight and Amir Khan wants a Mayweather Khan fight.  Berto is an exciting fighter, but he's not the best.  Floyd is.  If he can make this fight exciting it can be a pretty good match up.  I've read things about personal issues regarding these two,  it doesn't matter.  It won't sell this fight.  I also believe Floyd will fight again to get win number 50 against someone who's a huge name.  The problem is, whoever that person is probably still has yet to develop a huge name.

Tim Tebow Signs With The Eagles!

Here's some news.  Tim Tebow has signed with the Philadelphia Eagles.  Funny thing is, I predicted Tim Tebow signing with the Eagles over 2 years ago.  What's more funny than that?  How about the fact that Mark Sanchez is on the Eagles with Tim Tebow.   Hopefully Eagles fans won't be having Jets flashbacks.  Some people are reporting that Tebow has improved greatly, only time will tell on that one.  Controversial decisions and Chip Kelly seem to go hand and hand.  All the best of luck to Tim.

Mayweather Vs. Pacquiao: ITS ON!

UPDATE 1/31/2015:   NOT SO FAST!  As has been with all reporting regarding the subject of a Mayweather vs Pacquiao bout, it seems that everyone is still jumping the gun.  Now Boxingscene has a report that says otherwise and its coming from the head of Showtime Sports.  All I know is this, I won't buy a Mayweather vs Somebody else or a Pacquiao vs somebody else.  I'm done with either of these guys till they fight each other.

Mayweather Is Fighting Pacquiao!?!? Not So Fast...

I've been reading and hearing about how pacquiao vs mayweather is nearly a done deal.  Apparently all Floyd has to do is sign on the dotted line.  Multiple news sources are reporting that Manny has agreed to Floyd's terms and that Floyd now has to just sign off on that.  Ok, first things first.  Both are old.  Both are at the end of their careers.  Both aren't exciting as they used to be.  Both should have fought each other around 5 years ago.  Why drag this out.  Stop reporting about non stories such as Floyd has to sign the deal and its a go.  When its for real and inked, then lets hear about it.


Now my thoughts as I prefaced earlier.  Not really excited. There's tons of fights in boxing that are more exciting than this. The problem is, those are not happening either.  That's the problem with this sport.  Guerrero vs Thurman?  Good.  Broner vs Molina?  Who gives a crap.  Just like Pacman vs. undefeated Algieri or whatever his name was.  How many of you honestly were following this undefeated Pacman opponent before he fought Manny.  Exactly.

Brandon Rios Comeback Fight: More Like Come'on...

Brandon Rios is an exciting fighter.  He hung in there in his fight with Manny Pacquiao, but didn't win.  This fight was supposed to be his comeback fight and it was hindered by a DQ.  Rios, if I remember correctly was complaining that Chaves was sticking his thumb in his eye during clinches.  Well, the referee listened to the complaints and DQ'd Chaves.  The fight was so close to the end, you'd wish the ref would've just let them fight it out for the last 3 rounds.  Rios did not want the fight to end this way, he looked angry and pissed off about the DQ even though he had won.  Who's next for Brandon?  I don't know, but I hope it's a bigger name than someone like Chaves.  I would love to see Rios Vs. Broner.  I honestly believe Broner would give Rios problems, but the fight would still be a competition between both.

Mayweather Vs Maidana 2: Rematch is on!

Ok, I haven't been watching too much boxing lately.  The last fight I saw was the first Mayweather vs. Maidana match.  Floyd Mayweather won that one.  I think he lost the first couple of rounds, but he won the rest convincingly.  I think he will win the rematch even easier.  I remember reading a Mayweather getting knocked out prediction on a boxing blog(Xerndro Boxing) that had a poll up that suggested Floyd would get KO'd.  It didn't have too many votes and still doesn't.  I wonder why. My question to anyone reading this is this.  How many of you think Floyd will have it easier this time against Marcos?  He's been in this position before.  I'm not even sure if I'm willing to pay money to see this one.  I'm expecting a repeat tilted with Mayweather looking more impressive.  I almost wish Floyd would have fought someone different since I keep hearing about him only having a few more fights.  Why waste it on someone you beat convincingly?  That's my 2 cents.  Oh, I should also mention that Cotto looked superb against Martinez.  I'd rather see a rematch with Cotto and Floyd.

Amir Khan Is Officially Fighting Luis Collazo On The Mayweather vs. Maidana Undercard!

I don't like to brag, but if you look back at a post I did on who Amir Khan was going to fight next,  you would see that Luis Collazo was at the top of the list of my likely candidates.  Now its official.  When you think about it, it makes sense.  Luis recently dismantled Victor Ortiz in 2 rounds.  This put him all over the boxing world's radar again.  He hasn't really been making a name for himself ever since the Ricky Hatton loss in my eyes.  This is his big second shot.  How will he fair?  I'll break it down for you from my perspective as a boxing fan.

Luis has a punchers chance.  I believe he can probably hit hard enough to hurt, knockdown or possibly even knock out Amir Khan.  I think if he(Collazo) wins, you are more likely to see a repeat of the Garcia vs Khan fight that happened awhile ago.  You also have to throw in the underdog factor.  There's no doubt about it, Collazo is a huge underdog.

Who do I want to win?  Well, I love underdogs, but I am going to have to go with Amir.   Amir Khan's an exciting fighter and I would much rather see him fight Adrien Broner or Floyd Mayweather, which is what this match up here will probably lead to.  I just don't think Collazo vs. Mayweather would be interesting, although him fighting Broner is another story.  If Khan wins, I believe he will out speed Collazo and beat him to the punch every time and win on points.  I don't see him getting a knock out, maybe a stoppage by the ref though.  Amir just has to watch that chin of his.

Michael Vick Is Leaving Philly, Flying On Over To The Jets In NY

Well, the second team Vick will play for after all the dog controversy is the NY Jets.  I'm sure he has special place in his heart for Philadelphia as do the Philly fans for him.  In my opinion, he had one really great year there and they supported him when it seemed no one else would after he served his time for the whole dog fighting thing.  I'm sure he's sad to leave, but things just weren't looking up for him in recent years.  I'm sure he can help the Jets do much better than Sanchez.  I've also been reading that a one Mr. DeSean Jackson may end up over there too.  It may actually be good for the Jets to get both those guys.  I can't see them really hurting the team at this point.  I'm sure things will be better in NY after that whole Tim Tebow mess.  Hopefully they actually let Vick quarterback and not have him sit on the bench his whole time there.

Sky Sports Vs. American Broadcasters: A Boxing Fan's Opinion

Boxing is no longer popular right?  That's what everyone will tell you.  Now I love it, but I think I know why some people aren't as enthusiastic about it.  When I watch American broadcasters cover a fight live, I almost fall asleep.  Yeah some get excited, but they also tend to play favorites and you can lose sight of what is actually going on.  Don't believe me?  Just look on the official Youtube channels of HBO, Showtime, ESPN etc..  Look for their boxing clips.  Now do the same for Sky Sports versions of those same fights if you can find them.  In some cases you may be able to see the same fight clips just with different voices commentating.  In my opinion, the Sky Sports broadcasters are way more exciting.  They are shouting the entire time and I honestly can't tell you the last time I suspected them of being bias.  They genuinely seem to be excited to watch the fight that they are at.  When one fighter's being pummeled I always hear, "Oh! This is surely going to be stopped!"  It's the little things like that, that set them apart.

American boxing broadcasters can take note and stop spouting with all the knowledge that they have in trying to predict the outcome to show that they were right about a fighter or match up.  That's what bores me to death.  Just enjoy the fight.  Maybe it's just the accents and the shouting, but it seems like they enjoy boxing more over in England.  If you have the chance watch a clip of a Sky Sports boxing match on Youtube and tell me they don't make you go on the edge of your seat and have your adrenaline rise.

Miguel Cotto Definitely Fighting Sergio Martínez: My Predictions

This is going to be one of the top fights of the year.  While more boxing fans will most likely watch Mayweather take on Maidana, this fight will rival it.  Cotto never disappoints when he takes on a big name and neither does Sergio.  My analysis is that Cotto is going to be the underdog in this one.  Sergio has fought at the higher weight class for much longer and Cotto has not looked too good in his last few fights and is probably towards the end of this career.  That being said, Sergio Martínez is no spring chicken and he is getting up there in age as well.  I think he's faster than Miguel and will prove difficult for him.  Other than the age, the only problem is that Martinez tends to keep his hands down a lot.  This has caused issues for him in the past, especially against Julio César Chávez, Jr.  He just narrowly escaped that fight and was nearly knocked out in the very last round.

Can Cotto win?  Possibly.  One thing is certain though, I'm banking on this being an action packed fight.  Both of these fighters are no stranger to them.  The outcome will also raise some very interesting scenarios.  Will Mayweather then fight Sergio?  Cotto is a former Mayweather opponent and discussions have been raised about Mayweather Fighting Martinez in the past.  If Cotto can do it, why can't Mayweather? 

Adrien Broner Starts His Comeback

Hey everyone, I just checked out Adrien Broner's official youtube channel and he's got a new video up.  I guess this marks the beginning of his comeback trail.  I suggest you check out the video weather you are a fan or not because there are some interesting things going on.  Broner looks different with the beard he's now sporting and he seems to look seriously motivated and I doubt he'll be taking his next fight as lightly given what happened last time with Maidana.  It strictly shows him training aside from his intro.  It has none of his usual flashy antics.

 While it's not a long video, the majority of the time he's working on the mitts.  I always thought Broner was a bit annoying, but I'm all for comebacks.  If he can bounce back and get a good win from a good opponent, he'll earn a lot of boxing fans respect and his overall net worth will increase.  I know he's fighting on the undercard of Mayweather vs Maidana, but I still think they haven't found an opponent for him yet.  Lucky for him, I don't think he'll be fighting for low purses yet, so he can still land a few names.  I'm hoping for Amir Khan, but recent statements from Amir might suggest he may not want to fight Borner for one reason or another.  I think it would be a stupid career move for Khan if he didn't though.

Amir Khan: Who Will He Fight Next?

Who's Amir Khan's next opponent?  If you check Khan's twitter, he says he will be making a decision soon and that the fighter won't be ranked as low as 33.  Floyd Mayweather has said that he wants Khan to fight Adrien Broner, but that doesn't seem very likely to happen so fast.  So, who do you think he'll be facing?  I've got some theories on who it will be.  So here it goes:

Luis Collazo - He just came off an impressive win against Victor Ortiz where he knocked him out pretty quick.  This got his name back into the boxing world.

Victor Ortiz - He lost to Collazo, but he is a former Mayweather opponent and can sometimes surprise folks like the time he beat Andre Berto.

Brandon Rios - Just came off a loss to Manny Pacquiáo.  It was a comeback fight for Pacman, so it garnered a whole bunch of press that Rios likely never experienced before.  It would be interesting to see this fight as Khan was formerly trained by Manny's trainer, Freddie Roach.  Could this fight possibly set up a fight between Khan and Pacquiáo?

Lucas Matthysse - Danny Garcia just beat him.  Garcia also beat Khan.  Lucas needs a comeback fight and he is a hard hitting knockout artist.  Khan's chin has been viewed by many as weak.  This could be an all out action fight if it were made.

There's my list.  I don't know who else he'd fight.  I hope it's not another no name guy or an older fighter coming up in weight.  Those fights tend to be boring when it comes to watching boxing.

Flashback: Anyone Remember The Mutant League Football Game?

What's up folks?  I decided to add an extra topic to the blog which is "Sports Video Games"  I know, I know, the Madden series is probably considered the best sports video game brand of all time.  When ever they release a new one, it's an event.  It's important to remember that those games at one point were on consoles like the Sega Genesis and had humble beginnings.  When I say humble, I mean they didn't have an exclusive NFL contract or whatever it is they have now.  The same company that does the Madden games had another football game.  It was called Mutant League Football.  Are there any readers that remember it?  I don't know where it took place, but the sports teams in the Mutant League games had a roster full of monsters and violent plays.  Some plays would involve a rigged football that exploded during a fake fumble.  Other plays involved  tackles that would dismember players if my memory serves correct.  Basically it felt like whoever played the dirtiest and was more tricky won.

Anyways if anyone out there has access to a Sega Genesis and likes football, look it up and see what I am talking about.  I wonder if the game has aged well.  I'll have to check out some videos on youtube or something to dig up the nostalgia.  I think the Mutant League games had one other sport video game title to it's name, but I'll leave that one for another post.

Marcos Maidana To Fight Floyd Mayweather! Amir Khan Gonna Fight Adrien Broner?

Marcos Maidana appears to have landed the fight that he wanted after defeating Broner.  Personally, I think Marcos Maidana has the power to hurt Floyd a little bit, but I don't see him pulling out a win.  I don't see him being able to stop Mayweather, not unless age has finally caught up with him.  I see Floyd trying to avoid his power all night and just pot shotting Maidana.  Towards the middle to later rounds depending on how worn out Maidana is, I see Floyd going for the knockout.

Amir Khan has recently taken to twitter to discuss his frustration with not being able to fight Floyd.  He's now calling out Broner and hoping for a fight with him on the undercard.  Khan convincingly beat Maidana a few years ago and almost knocked him out within the first round of their fight with a body shot.  So, it looks like Khan thinks "Amir Khan > Maidana > Broner."  It's hard not to agree with him, but Floyd Money Mayweather made the right financial choice with this fight.  Everyone wants to see Maidana vs. Mayweather at the moment.  It should be more interesting than the Canelo fight I believe.

The Winter Olympics in Sochi... Is Making Me Sleepy.

Long time no write.  Anyways I haven't been keeping up with the Winter Olympics.  In the beginning it was semi interesting.  I was hearing tales of wolves roaming the halls,  Olympians being locked in their crappy hotels,  cameras invading privacy, and all sorts of stuff that make me glad I'm not in Russia.  Overall though, i haven't heard anything interesting.  Well, that's not true.  That one hockey match against Russia was supposedly awesome.  It sure sounded it anyways.  In the end Canada got the gold.  What can you do?  That's their sport.  I guess they deserve it.  Any of you keeping up with figure skating? I heard someone didn't agree with their judging and it became a little internet meme of it's own.

Well, that's about all I have to offer on this whole Sochi Olympics thing.  On the bright side, its making me look forward to the summer Olympics.  You just can't top the running and the pole vaulting in my eyes.

NFL: Tim Tebow For The Eagles Anybody?

With all the rumors about Tim Tebow being released from the Jets and how he probably won't get to play for his hometown of Jacksonville, does anyone think he should go to the Eagles?  They are in need of serious restructuring and it will probably get fans talking about the team again now that Andy Reid is gone. 

NHL Still On Strike!

Well, I believe I've read that talks have stalled again and that more games in the season have been cancelled.  Way to go guys!  This year is turning out be a very lackluster year for hockey.  Sorry, just had to get that off my chest.

You Tube Boxing Community: YTBC and Bloodboxing

I'm a huge fan of boxing and especially the You Tube boxing community.  I love listening to different opinions from fight fans.  I used to watch Buddhaphy, KG21Karlito and some others.  I don't believe they really make videos anymore though.  One of the older members of this community of boxing fans on You Tube is BloodBoxing.  He's still going and he's still entertaining.  He gets involved in a lot of controversy and that can sidetrack his more intelligent boxing videos, but if you are fan of boxing I would check him out.  There's not much boxing coverage on sports shows today and if you want some interesting opinions I would watch some of his videos.   What's funny is I don't go to ESPN to watch analysis on boxing, I go to You Tube. 

If he can cut out the beefs with other youtubers, his channel would be the perfect boxing channel to watch.  Another criticism i have is that he as of recent only seems to talk about the big name fighters such as Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather.  I believe this is what sidetracks most of his videos and topics with nonsense.  Those two fighters have a very combative fan base.  I also would like to hear his thoughts on past and upcoming fights like Amir vs Garcia, Judah vs Garcia, Mosley Vs Malignaggi, Ricky Hatton's comeback loss etc... 

That's it.  I just thought I'd share a source of entertainment for any fans of the sport of boxing out there.  It's one of those channels that I keep coming back to.

Boxing: Amir Khan Dismantles Carlos Molina

Having seen the latest Amir Khan fight, I will say he did pick up some new things from his new trainer, Virgil Hunter.  I don't think Carlos Molina was a true test for Khan and it doesn't really wow me to see him win this fight.  Molina still took advantage of some mistakes that Khan was making that he's made from past fights.  The thing is, if this were another opponent that was a true name fighter, Khan might've been in some trouble.  Molina didn't have the power to affect Amir Khan where others might have.  While he emphasized patience and not going to wars in a whole bunch of interviews as of late, Khan still engaged in some exchanges that I believe would've hurt or even floored him if he were fighting someone else.

Virgil Hunter seemed to have Khan throw combinations and then back off quite a bit.  That was one thing I saw Khan doing alot in this fight.  That could help him significantly if he keeps composed for future fights.  Can I see him beating Danny Garcia?  Yes I can.  Can I see Garcia knocking him out again?  Yes I certainly can.  It all depends on weather or not Khan makes certain mistakes at certain times.  Garcia has the power to hurt Khan where as Molina did not.  Amir is an exciting fighter though, hopefully he can get some name fighters for his next few bouts.
